Day 4: Portland to Bar Harbor
A long coastal drive today, so prompt departure taking in the following:
- East Bath - Toilet stop
- Wiscasset - a nice little town with a scenic railway we were just too late
see. A walk round the town was rewarded with the first views of bright red
trees and New England clapboard houses on the same picture.
- Rockland - the intended lunch stop but not a very interesting place,
though the visitor centre had free nibbles available.
- Camden - sat under the only "turning" tree in the area to eat
our picnic lunch, which meant we were on everybody's holiday picture. This
was followed by a leisurely stroll around the marina and town.
- Bucksport - a nice viewpoint.
- Thompson Island visitor centre.
- Bar Harbor for eating and sightseeing of the town in daylight. Val
wrestled with a lobster for tea - she did get eating instructions on the
tablemat. Andrew ate chicken.
- Check into the hotel a mile out of town.
There had been plans to visit numerous places on the way, but somehow we
didn't find the time.
Spent the evening lounging around and "relaxed"
